Elvis impersonator John Monforto entertained crowds at Philadelphia’s Independence Vistors Center Saturday to let them know about Ali and Elvis: American Icons at the James A. Michener Art Museum opening Saturday, February 19. John Monforto will be singing again at the Museum for a Member’s Preview Friday, February 15, and on opening day.
When John was a young actor-singer performing with a friend, the crowd requested an Elvis tune. John barely knew anything Elvis at the time. His friend said, “Can you say these three words: all shook up. You just join in with all shook up, and I’ll do the rest.”
John caught on and picked up the moves, as well. At the end of the evening, a cruise operator invited him to do Elvis on board, and what followed was a career as an Elvis impersonator (he also does Rocky). Now John can make a fried banana and peanut butter sandwich like a pro. For his recipe, watch the video. Better yet, come see Ali and Elvis!
