Barbara Harrison was one of the enthusiastic visitors to the opening of Facing Out, Facing In, at the Michener Art Museum. A former Michener Business Partner who has worked at the front desk, Harrison has become an avid quiltmaker. She runs a group from her home, Time Travelers, that meets the fourth Monday of every month.
“We do all kinds of needlework” besides quilting, she says: anything from needlepoint and rug hooking to knitting and crocheting.
The Michener will be exhibiting Quilt Art: International Expressions September 1, 2011, to January 1, 2012. Quilt Art features over 35 quilts that include landscape scenes, still lifes, geometric constructions and abstract juxtapositions of color and form. While each member brings a distinctive approach to the medium, a reflection of their home countries’ culture, geography and design traditions can also be discovered in the work.
So mark your calendar — we hope to see you here!
